Our first destination is Llanos de Cortés waterfall, located half hour south of Liberia city, in Bagaces County. The waterfall is about 90 feet tall and 30 feet wide. Finding a waterfall like this in Guanacaste can be difficult since the topography of the region is mainly flat and dry.

The access is relatively easy. The parking area is very close to the waterfall. From there, it is a short 5-minute walk downhills. Once at the bottom, there is a nice pool with a white sandy beach that is good for swimming, or just hanging out and relaxing (this is a great place for kids). In the parking area you will find changing rooms and toilets, as well as souvenirs made by local artisans from the town (collars, bracelets, earing, paintings, wood items and coffee).

After the visit to this waterfall we drive to Bijagua to visit an agroecological farm located in the rainforest behind the Miravalles volcano. Sustainable rural tourism is a development opportunity for small communities. Tourism projects in these rural environments are operated by families from the same community who employ local labor generating jobs for their residents. These projects generate a direct chain of the local economy, benefiting everyone.

On the farm we carry out a guided walk for 1: 30 hrs, to look for sloths and other species of wildlife including frogs and monkeys. This is a great opportunity to try to find the sloths and take pictures through the lens of the spotting scope.
